The Walking Dead: 15 Best Zombie Kills (So Far)

15. Rick Shoots A Child, Part One ("Days Gone Bye") In the first scene of the first episode of The Walking Dead, Rick is walking the Georgia highway, searching for a functioning gas station to fuel up his police cruiser and continue on his way to Atlanta. Instead of gasoline, however, Rick finds a little girl, stumbling alone in a sea of abandoned cars. Poor innocent season one Rick assumes that she is still alive but lost, and he calls out to her. When she turns around, he sees that the little girl with the bunny slippers and stuffed animal is missing half of her face. She begins to stagger toward him, so Rick shoots her in the head, and our first zombie kill of the entire show is the protagonist putting down a child. Why It's Great: It was a hell of a way to start a series. Granted, it's unlikely that any viewers were going into the pilot of a show called The Walking Dead without expecting zombies, but we were immediately thrown into the desolation of the zombie apocalypse. We didn't know exactly what or why this was happening, but we did know that children in bunny slippers are generally off-limits for gore on television. Yes, The Walking Dead was off to a hell of a start.
