The Walking Dead: 6 Things "Slabtown" Did Right (And 4 It Didn't)
The Good:
6. A Different Rhythm
And breath. The opening of this season of The Walking Dead was one of the more intense in a long time (and this is a show that had the Governor hanging over it for a good few dozen episodes), as Ricky and company dealt with the ongoing threat of that Terminus lot and their rumbling stomachs. That confrontation ended in a more positive fashion than it usually does for the survivors in the show - relatively, anyway - so, whilst things settled down there, so too did the tone of Slabtown. The Walking Dead has always had a problem with pacing. The second season especially dragged a bunch, with the characters just sort of milling about on Hershels farm and not a whole lot else. This season, meanwhile, has been moving at breakneck speeds up until this point. Slabtown managed to strike a sweet spot right in the middle, with a sense of creeping dread and building tensions over the initial forty minutes exploding into that action packed finale. Its nice to have a change of pace every so often.
