The Walking Dead: 7 Unanswered Questions We Hope Season 4 Answers

1. Are There Any Intelligent Walkers?

Morgans Wife1 At first this may seem like a ridiculous question to ask, given that for the majority of the show, the walkers have been nothing more than mindless corpses which happen to be both reanimated and apparently extremely hungry. There is apparently not a single semblance of intelligence left in the shells of these walkers, even those who may still clutch possessions from life in their death grip, they do not seem to notice. However, turn your mind back to the first episode and you'll remember Morgan and his son being holed up in their former family home, knowing that the walker which was his wife is now lurking outside. All that seems fair enough, until you realise that this particular walker appears to be haunting that particular house, seemingly staring straight through the window, motionlessly, at her husband in life. What's more is that she actually seems to attempt to open the front door of the house, using the doorknob, something not seen by any walker since that episode. Does this mean that she, and therefore other walkers are capable of some form of intelligence? Do some retain a small amount of memory of their life? Or was this a fluke, where that walker just happened to be turning the doorknob whilst we were all watching, and it never happened before or after? In all likelihood, this was probably something the writers then altered after the first episode, a scene used to disturb us more than a straight forward walker attack, but that does not necessarily rule out the possibility of a walker with a brain (zombie irony, I guess). Whether we ever find an answer to this one is doubtful to me, but season four has already taken a leap into the biological ins and outs of the undead, so you never can tell.
