The Walking Dead: Hershel’s 11 Most Badass Acts

3. Hershel's New House

Walking Dead Hershel Caleb In €˜Infected€™ (S4 E03), as the seniors and the children were quarantined away from the sick, Hershel considered his new position. He sits at a desk, examining a coffee mug before he comes to a realization which spurs him into action. For a moment, I thought I was watching reruns of House €“ the doctor with a limp comes to some grand conclusion while staring at a meaningless object. I'm not complaining €“ just like Hershel, House is a badass. They know what they need to do, and they don€™t let anyone stop them. Not even their boss or daughter can stop them when they know they€™re right, and they€™re always right. Except about the walkers still being sick people, but still, moving on. Hershel runs outside to get some leaves to make tea, but Maggie confronts him before he enters the infected cell block. At this point, Hershel outlines the reasons he is a badass. He knows he€™s living in fear, but he€™s determined to fight against it and explains a simple truth €“ it€™s not about risking your life, it€™s about what you€™re risking it for. So he enters the infected cell block with only a scarf around his mouth and his nose. And if that wasn't badass enough, after getting tea to the infected, a patient coughs blood all over Hershel€™s face. But Hershel just pulls down his scarf to reveal a calm smile, thus fitting a universal law €“ only a badass can put his life on the line with a smile on his face.
