What Umbrella Academy's Cast Look Like In The Comics
1. Number 5 (The Boy)
In The Comics
You'd have thought that the least beloved of the Academy characters - Number 7 (since they're ranked by usefulness to Sir Reginald) - would be the one to not have a name, but it's actually Number 5 who didn't get that "reward" in the comics.
Instead, he's vaguely referred to as The Boy who disappeared days before the Academy's first mission in Paris (something that Sir Reginald proclaimed "no big loss"). That time travel-related disappearance means he's actually a 60-year-old man, but appears to be a particularly small 10-year-old physically.
It's later revealed he was the subject of gene splicing experiments by the Temps agency to turn him into the perfect killer using serial killer DNA. That's why he's such a tiny bad-ass.
In The Show
Played by Aidan Gallagher - the stand-out and break-out star of the show - Number 5 is arguably the second most powerful of the Academy, since the ability to time travel basically makes everything possible. There is a caveat, in that he can't COMPLETELY control it, but that's seemingly dropped by the end anyway.
As in the comics, he's got the full "School Of Rock" look down and Gallagher's performance really sells his "old soul" spirit. As yet, there's been no talk of DNA tinkering, though he can teleport, which is a new power for the show.
