1. Homer Collapses The Universe, Then Explodes It (The Wizard Of Evergreen Terrace)
Theres a third joke crammed onto that chalkboard, and its probably the most profound in the entirety of the shows many seasons. Its to do with the density of the universe, and the ultimate end of time and space. Its pretty heavy. Originally, the equation reads: Ω(t0) 1 In setting the density of the universe to less than one, Homer consigns us all to an eventual implosion, or the Big Crunch which was once postulated as a possible end of the universe once the energy from the Big Bang had dissipated and gravity started to drag everything back together again. The result is a small implosion in the Simpson basement. Going back to the chalkboard, Homer changes the equation to this: Ω(t0) > 1 This equation postulates that the universe is set to keep expanding forever, and accordingly theres a much bigger explosion in the basement immediately afterwards. So, it turns out Homers actually making and destroying miniature models of the universe in his basement. Clever as that is, its tricky to monetise that sort of thing. Probably best to stick to refining the electric hammer.
