10 Biggest Heat Generators In UFC History
3. Jon Jones
Jon Jones would probably be the most hated fighter in the history of the UFC if he also wasn't the greatest fighter of all time. The list of this man’s personal scandals outside of the cage are next to none, even Conor McGregor at his worst.
Fans first saw the true heelish character of Jon Jones in the lead up to his fight with Daniel Cormier. Jon Jones uncharacteristically, at the time, talked a lot of trash towards Daniel Cormier and the two even got in a physical altercation at a press event. Of course, this was just the tip of the iceberg and nothing compared to the endless s**t storm Jon Jones has since brought upon his career.
Since the first Cormier fight, Jones gained heat for the following instances: hitting a pregnant woman with his car while driving under the influence, then fleeing the scene of that accident, violating his probation from the aforementioned incident by drag racing, failing multiple drug tests for steroids both before and after beating Daniel Cormier a second time, and most recently the allegation that he assaulted a stripper in a nightclub. The main frustration with all these instances is two things. First, Jon Jones is given more leniency than any other fighter in the history of the UFC (except for maybe Conor McGregor). Second, and more importantly, Jones continually repeats the same negative behavior again and again. Another day in the UFC, another Jon Jones scandal.
It’s truly amazing the behavior people will forgive when an athlete is considered the greatest of all time. Perhaps that even speaks volumes about organizations like USADA and UFC and even about us as fans who still buy his fights.
