6. Dustin Rhodes/Goldust

Dusty's son Dustin was brought in as a favour to the 'American Dream' in late-1990. The idea was that Dustin would collide with his dad's main rival Ted DiBiase and prolong the feud. It worked fine enough, but both headed back to WCW shortly afterwards.

Still, that was a way in for Dustin, gave him a taste of WWE life, and more international recognition.

When he was ready to strike out on his own and rejoin WWE in 1995, they had something else - something bold - in mind for him. Overnight, the controversial Goldust was born, and Dustin (who wasn't seeing eye-to-eye with his father at this time) couldn't wait to show what he was capable of without the Rhodes name hanging over him.

23 years later, he's still at it. Today, Goldust is considered a cagey veteran who managed to make an impossibly over-the-top, raunchy character work for him. The gimmick has become his legacy, which is what he wanted when looking to step out of his dad's shadow.
