2. Raw Is War Riff Gets Blood Pumping

In 1997, Vince McMahon was looking for a direction which would help his WWF retake the top spot in the industry from WCW. The WWF had become stale, almost dorky in atmosphere. The garish colour schemes didn't help, and neither did the cartoon-like music which opened shows like Monday Night Raw. One song would change that. Specifically, one riff would revolutionise the perception of the company. Entitled, 'Thorn In Your Eye', the song became the trademark opening for the rebranded Raw Is War program. The opening 20 seconds or so are rather generic metal, but there's charm in it all. By the time the lyrics stop and a colossal riff hits viewers in the face, excitement became palpable every Monday night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVIDkgTw4FE This was something fresh, something dangerous. There's no real need for hyperbole here, when the fireworks went off and that riff played in the background, it was sheer magic. There are even videos on YouTube which loop the riff over and over, because people still get a buzz out of it today. Contrast that with today's Monday Night Raw theme, and it's not even close.
