10 Absolute Worst Gimmicks In Wrestling Today

9. King Corbin

Poor old Baron Corbin just can't catch a break. A longtime martyr for the poor state of WWE programming, Corbin has lurched from one uninspired feud to another, constantly getting blamed for monotonous matches and dull TV. Corbin's improvements seem to go unnoticed, ignored. That he has developed into a more than serviceable television wrestler seems to have gone over the heads of many viewers.

None of that changes the ridiculousness of the king gimmick. The poisoned crown of royalty sits heavy on the head of Big Banter Baron. Shorn of his rough and ready edges, the pompous form of aristocracy is not a fit for the former United States Champion, and it even seems to have cursed this writer with grandiose language. Baron Corbin is a tough dude, not a king.

Besides, why are we still seeing people get saddled with the king gimmick in 2020? There are no benefits to it whatsoever, and the sooner Corbin sheds it the better for all involved.

Saying that, King Corbin is infinitely better than Constable Corbin. Why can't he go back to being indie-hating banter merchant Baron Corbin?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
