10 AEW Matches We Most Want To See

8. Hangman Page Vs. Kenny Omega

One for the very distant future.

Kenny Omega's AEW character is very much a babyface. The music video for his new theme, Battle Cry, frames him as a man who trains in extreme, frozen conditions to realise his dreams. Drawing on the imagery and synthesisers beloved of his nerd-adjacent fanbase, Battle Cry is a video game ripper that reflects brilliantly the corny, earnest appeal of the act.

But Hangman Page is evidently being groomed for the top babyface spot.

This might, at some point, destabilise the confidence and security of a man who presents himself as nothing less than the best wrestler on the planet - a character development that may double as a regression to his affected, pretentious Cleaner persona. Omega, because he is such a phenomenal, explosive performer, is vastly underrated in the "looking great at f*cking people up" game, and is therefore a superb choice to reinforce Page's position - or delay his ascent to the throne in a staggered, storied rivalry.

Omega is also, again, a phenomenal, explosive performer - the most suitable choice to both extract sympathy from the audience and invoke fully the super-worker within the prospective face of the company.
