10 AEW Matches We Most Want To See

6. Fénix Vs. CIMA

AEW

As a team, the Lucha Bros. are just awesome - so much so that the combined, complementary thunder-and-lightning threat of Penta El Zero M and Fénix can probably withstand a less than pristine win/loss record. They carry that much of a spectacular, imposing threat that they don't require much build.

With respect to Penta El Zero M, who is a gnarly sh*t-kicker of a luchador, the word "awesome" almost does Fénix a disservice. The guy is phenomenal. The guy is so ludicrously inventive that he could feasibly stand astride the tag team and singles ranks without depleting his endless pool of innovation.

Fénix Vs. CIMA is one of several intriguing, inter-generational battles made possible by the astute spectrum of AEW's roster. It isn't comprised almost exclusively of decorated guys in their prime. This specific dynamic sets the influential puro-lucha master against a performer who has taken that inspiration and used it as fuel to drive, at 100mph, into a new, unchartered path of hypersonic pro wrestling.

Not without a certain pathos, a certain emotional heft - long-term admirers of CIMA would will him to victory in this defiant last-stand - this passing-of-the-torch battle would create moments of pure, get-the-f*ck-in euphoria when he comes closest.
