10 AEW Originals Who Are Struggling In 2022
6. Scorpio Sky
Scorpio Sky showed great potential as a babyface hero and breakout star from SoCal Uncensored in the AEW’s early days, but the Tony Khan helmed promotion never capitalised on it. Instead he wound up turning heel and teaming up with Ethan Page as Men Of The Year.
That pairing had its own strengths, and Sky isn’t a bad heel, but the team struggled when consistently programmed against some of AEW’s least popular babyfaces. Aligned with Dan Lambert and Top Team, the pair feuded with Cody and Brandi Rhodes when fans were begging Cody to turn heel, The Inner Circle during their underwhelming babyface run, and Sammy Guevara just as fans were turning on him.
MOTY weren’t getting over to the point you’d want to turn them babyface, but neither were they really functioning as heels. Fans in the arenas, sadly, were too happy to laugh along with Dan Lambert’s sexist digs at Brandi Rhodes and Tay Conti.
Right now Sky is on the shelf, but even when he was fit he was nowhere near the lofty position 2019 fans were projecting him into. With Ethan Page having moved on to The Firm, it remains to be seen what impact Sky makes when he returns from injury.
