10 AEW Stars Who Should Be The Next TNT Champion
Could one of these AEW stars bring glory back to the TNT Championship?
With Sammy Guevara and Scorpio Sky playing hot potato with the TNT Championship following Cody Rhodes’ departure from the company, most will admit the belt seems to have lost some of the luster accrued since its creation in 2020.
Though it must be noted Guevara’s current standing with most of the AEW fanbase may least partially to blame for the title’s sullied reputation, Scorpio’s immediate dismissal of the ever-popular open challenge during his initial reign was equally damaging.
Guevara and Conti’s behavior effectively branded Dan Lambert and his entire stable as babyfaces by comparison, though there seems to be a shift in the group as a whole following this week’s Rampage.
While ‘Dynamite Dan’ and ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page continued their heelish behavior during an in-ring promo, the former ‘Face of the Revolution’ seemed to shift gears. During an exchange with Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio’s tone (besides the Conti comment) indicated a potential shift in trajectory, declaring his intent to be a fighting champion.
However, should Scorpio’s second reign go over as well as his first, there are more than a few solid contenders who could elevate the tarnished title back to its former glory.
10. Ricky Starks
While it is awesome seeing the FTW Championship on national television once again, it is high time ‘Absolute’ Ricky Starks laid claim to an AEW recognized title.
As demonstrated during his tenure in AEW, Ricky Starks follows in the footsteps of conniving heels who are more than capable between the ropes. With all of his talent backed up by the might of the stable of assassins in Team Taz, a Ricky Starks run with The TNT Championship would be a deviation from the ideal ‘fighting champion’, but in the best possible way.
It wouldn’t be the first time Starks made an effort to capture the title, either.
His last attempt against Cody Rhodes taking place on the 17 June 2020 edition of AEW Dynamite.
Though he came out of that encounter looking up at the lights during the three-count, the wealth of talent waiting to be unleashed by the young wrestler was on full display.
One thing is for certain: when Starks finally captures the gold, the revolution will indeed be televised.
