It was very, very WWE to at long last present a version of Dean Ambrose that was both funny and believably hard as f*ck when the man behind the gas mask was already half out the door.

Leaning on the audience adoration for The Shield, the company retconned the lame and listless Ambrose/Seth Rollins feud following the fabulous news about Roman Reigns' recovery from leukaemia. 'the Hounds Of Justice' had a gripping farewell tour that spoke loudly to the legacy they'd managed to create as one of the few successfully-pushed acts of the 2019s.

Moxley has noted in the past that a financial figure was offered late in the day to get him to stick around in 2019, but he never looked at the number. It's possibly for the best - the industry needed 'Mox' as much as he evidently needed it, and WWE had made similar overtures to both The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega ahead of AEW's launch.
