10 Amazing WCW Starrcade Moments WWE Should Take Inspiration From

8. Eye Quit

Back in the surround that would come to define so many early Starrcade moments, Tully Blanchard nearly lost his sight as an enraged Magnum TA sought his revenge in a powerful 'I Quit' encounter.

Going on underneath a Ric Flair/Dusty Rhodes main event (more on that later), Tully and Magnum were respective associates of the Champion and Challenger, and shared their disdain for one another as philosophical opposites.

Predating WrestleMania 2 by nearly six months, Starrcade '85 would be held at separate venues following the massive success of the original two incarnations of the show, and required blockbuster main events for legs at both the Greensboro Coliseum and The Omni. Whilst Dusty and Flair closed the pay-per-view proper, the Greensboro card held back-to-back steel cage wars, with the T.A/Blanchard match stealing the show after an absorbing war almost ended catastrophically for the heel.

Sick of having to fend off attacks by Blanchard running mates The Andersons and Baby Doll, Magnum took advantage of the cage to beat down the cowardly Tully until Blanchard took out the referee in frustration at T.A's refusal to quit. Baby Doll threw in a wooden chair, which was promptly destroyed by Blanchard to fashion it into a spike. His wicked plan was undone by the gutsy Magnum, who fought fire with fire and threatened to put the spike through his rival's eye until Tully screamed surrender.

To the sound of Blanchard's screams, Magnum left with the title, but carried the burden of how low he'd been willing to sink.
