WWE is largely a more...fitful promotion than AEW, or at least it was when Vince McMahon was firmly in control. It is difficult to fondly recall a moment in the history of the promotion, and blend it into the next phase of a story, when so much of that modern history basically amounts to a lot of incoherent nonsense that Vince retconned through disgust within the span of about three weeks.

Now that WWE has rediscovered a rather important storytelling device called "plotting", the company is able to have some fun with continuity.

As fundamentally silly a TV programme as NXT is, the show - and this is bare minimum stuff really - does actually storyboard things and pay attention to itself. It matters. It's hysterically stupid at times, but it matters. It's one of the weirder passion projects in WWE history.

As an example, a mafioso character named 'Two Dimes', formerly of Tony D'Angelo's family, was killed off when Troy Donovan was found to have broken "policy" in 2022. He was chucked over a bridge and fed to the fishes.

A year later, when his old partner in crime Stacks attempted to solve the mystery of who ratted Tony out to the "feds", two actual dimes were stuck to his conspiracy board. Did he survive the attempt on his life?!

(Yes, since for some strange reason he rocked up in AEW subsequently).

While hardly "amazing" in and of itself, the idea that WWE actually recalls things these days is an amazing phenomenon.
