10 Annoying Ways WWE Ruined What We Once Loved
1. Survivor Series - Leaving Out NXT
Survivor Series can be an entry unto itself on this list. One of the classic Big Four pay-per-views, with its signature match type, it has been home to some of the most important events in wrestling history. Today it has been reduced to the annual brand T-shirt festival.
Let’s ignore the fact that wrestlers are meant to be passionate about brands they have been on for less than a month and devoted to winning matches that appear to have no real reward for them. Let’s put it all to one side for now because last year, it all worked perfectly.
Reason: NXT.
The inclusion of the yellow brand injected life into the brand warfare nonsense. We had a hungry crop of young stars who were determined to leave their mark on the company’s top money-makers. On the other hand, the Raw and SmackDown wrestlers now had to pull up their own socks otherwise they would get embarrassed by developmental talent. See? Actual motivations on both sides.
Given how much it helped the brand vs brand concept, it comes as no surprise that Vince decided we can’t have that anymore. This year saw WWE revert back to the old Raw vs SmackDown formula and Survivor Series has gone back to being just a T-Shirt festival. Why Vince, why?
