Pedro Morales may have only held the WWE Championship once, but it's difficult to muster any sympathy for him. That single reign clocked in at more than 1,000 days, lasting from February 1971 to December 1973.

On longevity alone, Morales should probably be regarded as one of the greatest champs of all-time. He's held the industry's top prize longer than Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock combined, and they managed some 14 reigns between them.

Many of us not being old enough to have seen him in the flesh, it's difficult to measure his overall contribution to the business. But wrestling historians have been generous with their praise for a man who helped to revolutionise WWE's in-ring style in the pre-TV era.
