10 Awesome Things You Don't Remember About WWE's Attitude Era

6. Unsolved Mysteries

The main event of King of the Ring 1999 was "Stone Cold" Steve Austin v Vince and Shane McMahon in a Ladder Match for control of the WWF. Towards the end of the match, just when it seemed Austin was going to grab the briefcase and seize control of the company, the briefcase mysteriously raised up out of his reach. Eventually the McMahons won, but fans were left wondering who raised the case? There was a stipulation for the Ladder Match that stated no member of The Corporation could interfere in the match, but Boss Man was recently fired. The next night on Raw, guess who is back with the boss? While it was never stated on screen, all the evidence points to The Big Boss Man being the man who raised the case. There was also the mysterious GTV, which would catch superstars unaware backstage. There was much speculation surrounding the person responsible for it, but it was never revealed. The most compelling theory is that it was Goldust, especially considering the earliest incarnations were "GDTV". After Goldust left, Vince Russo apparently pitched for Tom Green to be responsible, but that never panned out. It was eventually revealed in a joke segment on Raw 1000 that the G stood for Gene Okerlund, but that obviously wasn't the intended payoff for the story.
