10 Awesome Times Wrestlers Learned From Their Mistakes

9. Matt Jackson Works The Back

Matt Jackson worked a tremendous extended back injury bit throughout 2018.

It informed several moments of high drama within and beyond his matches. He often couldn't withstand the pain when applying the sharpshooter he had taken on as a signature, leading to sequences fraught with peril, and when Kenny Omega inadvertently threw him on his back, it set up one of the very best tag team matches in wrestling history at NJPW Strong Style Evolved.

In a brilliant twist that put over the idea that all wrestling matters, that it isn't some carny bullsh*t worked from one month to the next, Matt applied the lessons and worked over the back of Isiah Kassidy a year later throughout the first round match of the inaugural World Tag Team Title tournament.

This storyline thread was expert in itself, in that it rewarded continuity. Developing a thread for that long reassured new Dynamite viewers that the show was worth investing in over the long haul.

It also informed the major shock of the Private Party upset; Matt evolved into an experienced performer in the same match he lost.
