10 Awesome Wrestlers WWE Totally Slept On

9. Chris Masters

There are few wrestlers WWE has ever failed more egregiously than Chris Masters, a chiselled-from-granite physical specimen who debuted with the company at the mere age of 22 and, on paper, seemed custom-built for Vince McMahon's tastes.

In addition to his incredible physique, he was a solid wrestler who got over quickly as a heel, and had a great finisher, The Master Lock, complete with his memorable weekly "Master Lock Challenge."

In November 2007, Masters was released following his second violation of the WWE's Wellness Policy, after which he joined the independent circuit for 18 months, before eventually making a return to WWE in mid-2009.

Masters was clean and still looked fantastic despite his leaner physique, yet he was quickly pushed into a comic relief face role to which he wasn't at all suited. After being drafted to Raw in 2011, he didn't have a single televised Raw match for four months, and was released soon thereafter.

Rumours suggest many WWE roster members were upset with Masters' release, feeling that he had made steps to improve himself during his second run, culminating in CM Punk even going to bat for him mere days after his release.

Since leaving WWE, Masters has worked on the indies and periodically for TNA/Impact Wrestling. At 36 years of age, time's still on his side for a third run, but is it easy to believe they'd actually use him appropriately this time?
