10 Awesome Wrestling Insults That Nobody Ever Talks About
5. Bob Holly Drives A Stake Through Gangrel's Heart
Bob Holly was a comedy genius who probably didn't know he was a comedy genius.
He once threatened to "break that little sh*thead" Michael Cole's "ass in half", and if you popped anywhere near the vicinity of him, he'd probably look at you sideways and wonder what the hell you were laughing at, ya little pube.
The WWF rewrote the language of wrestling in the Attitude Era. The You're Good / I'm Better/ And I'll Prove It This Sunday formula was abandoned at the altar of pure verbal incineration. Far more witty and expressive than today's model, in which the acts simply point out one another's flaws, it was also necessary to determine which acts were capable of returning fire to sell the upcoming pay-per-view in classic, sh*t-slinging segments.
Gangrel, bless him, was not capable of returning fire. Bob Holly pelted the hapless vampire with verbal garlic. In trying to determine his Super Heavyweight suitability in 1999, Holly asked Gangrel to climb on his cousin's scales. Not politely:
"Hey Dracula, how about you, ya fat bastard?"
Time of death: about 20 minutes before the WarZone.
This brutal insult held up a mirror to Gangrel, and, ruining the aura of the gimmick in about three seconds, showed his reflection as a cosplayer not quite in the best shape.
Gangrel is a rare wrestling nice guy, too, making this all the funnier.
