10 Awesome Wrestling Matches That Saved Careers
8. Goldberg Vs. Brock Lesnar (Survivor Series 2016)
While some fans might regret that this match with Brock Lesnar revitalised the WCW juggernaut's career, it's impossible to deny just how sensational this demolition of Brock Lesnar was and what it did for the twilight years of the legendary Bill Goldberg's career.
Goldberg hadn't wrestled in over 12 years by the time he signed on to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2016. His last match was the first time him and Lesnar had locked up in a singles match at WrestleMania XX, one of the most notoriously panned matches in wrestling history, and this was promoted as the redemption arc for this potential dream match. Goldberg won that contest so it was assumed he was brought in to give Lesnar a major dominant victory on his unstoppable 2010s WWE run.
However, to the surprise of everyone, Goldberg destroyed Lesnar with several spears and a Jackhammer to get a clean pinfall victory in 86 seconds. It caused one of the most visceral crowd reactions in wrestling history and immediately re-invigorated Goldberg as a draw, leading to an acclaimed second run and incredibly divisive third one. It's unlikely he'd still be around in 2020 if not for this amazing collision.
