The current Executive Vice President of AEW Cody has been very open about his disdain for the Stardust character in the years since dropping the face paint, stating that he didn’t get the opportunity to be creative with the character and being desperate to go back to his normal Cody Rhodes persona before eventually asking for his release. Stardust might not be beloved by the man who portrayed him, but there was plenty of stuff to enjoy in the run especially knowing where Cody ended up.

The Ascension were an admittedly limited tag team that still had something to offer on main roster programming, their presentation on NXT showed that they could be utilised to good effect and they had surprisingly strong chemistry with Rhodes in their comedic backstage segments.

The Cosmic Wasteland was far from a serious stable, as they leaned into the absurdity of all three men’s gimmicks, and likely didn’t have the capacity for a main event run in them. Yet, it still feels like more could have been done with their unique chemistry and distinctive look somewhere in the midcard.

Obviously Cody hasn’t been hurt by the group quietly disbanding, but it could have been fun.
