10 Awesome WWE Ideas That Didn't Last

4. The Awesome Truth

It takes a lot of work to make R-Truth a credible heel in the modern day and age, yet somehow WWE managed to do so by aligning him with The Miz of all people. Miz and Truth came together in the summer of 2011 as they felt they were both the victims of a WWE conspiracy keeping them out of the main event. This led to them interrupting matches and basically holding the show hostage. Despite this being The Miz and R-Truth, the angle worked and the two became hated for the right reasons in the process.

It was a chance, seemingly out of nowhere, to solidify two credible main event heels to go up against John Cena and newly-babyface CM Punk. Instead The Awesome Truth were served up on a plate to The Rock and Cena at Survivor Series and subsequently split after Truth gained himself a Wellness Policy violation.

The Miz continued to meander for a few more years before his 2016 career resurgence, whilst Truth hasn’t even come close to entertaining the idea of this level of legitimacy since. The Awesome Truth was one of those rare ideas that didn’t seem great on paper but truly caught on, only to be extinguished before its full potential could be met.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
