10 Awesome WWE PPV Names That Should Return

10. One Night Only (UK)

This PPV event was a UK-exclusive that took place in 1997. It saw Shawn Michaels defeat hometown hero Davey Boy Smith for the European Championship, which certainly didn't go down well with the crowd. The heat really was off-the-charts, with the Birmingham crowd pelting the ring with garbage at the matches conclusion. Prior to this match, it was the habit of WWE to put over the locale superstar in order to build their following and star power, but after this night, the pendulum would stay swinging in the opposite direction. One Night Only is a great title for a PPV that can be pulled out every so often to illustrate the rarity of a certain match. Not that there are many matches in WWE today that would fall under the heading of "one night only" but perhaps the environment, stipulation, or location could all factor into the equation, making the One Night Only name appropriate. It makes the event sound more special than "Payback" or some other generic, derivative noun. The company has been more open to part-time contracts that an idea of a One Night Only match involving Brock Lesnar, The Rock, The Undertaker, etc. isn't completely out there. Coincidentally enough, the only One Night Only PPV name lasted for, you guess it, one night only! Unlike ECW's One Night Stand events years later, which took place on several occasions, the One Night Only name lived up to its name as it was not brought back the following year. As long as the company doesn't completely bastardize the concept (ala Cena vs. Rock "Once In A Lifetime" at two WrestleManias in a row), fans would likely be receptive to this PPV being brought back into the mix.
