10 Beloved Wrestlers FIRED By WWE

9. William Regal

William Regal had it good in WWE.

As a scout, he could simply pop down to Reseda and check out a generation of amazing talent that already knew how to get over and tell Triple H which ones to pop front row at a TakeOver. As an onscreen authority figure, all he had to do was meekly say "Yes, that match sounds good to me sunshine" or scream "WARGAMES!" and people worshipped the ground he drank piss on.

Look, that's snarky. His firm but fair rulings were a very refreshing take on the authority figure role. Fans just gravitated to Regal in a way that was almost parasocial, despite him never getting major reactions in a WWE ring.

Honestly, this man was so beloved in his role as the onscreen, fictional General Manager of NXT, a predetermined television programme, that when he turned up in AEW, some people wanted him to book the product and make the matches.

He never actually did that in real life!

Shockingly, the man who was intensely loyal and utterly beloved by hardcore WWE fans was released from all duties on January 5, 2022 as part of the huge shake-up within developmental when it was prised away from Triple H, who may well have been demoted.

Like Triple H himself, Regal bounced back, carrying out much of his duties alongside Paul Levesque, after asking Tony Khan to return so that he could work alongside his son in Shawn Michaels' NXT.

Allegedly!
