10 Best "Whodunnit" Mysteries In Wrestling
9. Who Attacked Roman Reigns
On an episode of SmackDown in July 2019, a lighting rig nearly fell and crushed Roman Reigns during a backstage interview. It was a surprising turn of events that got even weirder when the Big Dog was nearly crushed by an oncoming vehicle the next week.
Roman, understandably unhappy, set to work on figuring out who had attacked him. Footage showed Buddy Murphy in the vicinity of the rig as it fell, and so Reigns tracked him down to see what he knew. He revealed he had seen Rowan nearby. However, when Rowan and his tag partner Daniel Bryan confronted Murphy, he changed his story and said that he had lied.
A rather bizarre segment ensued where Bryan and Rowan revealed to Roman the identity of the attacker, which was just some random guy who just so happened to look a lot like Rowan. Additional footage of a big man in a black hoody that could’ve been either Rowan or his lookalike somehow convinced Roman that it was Rowan, who then admitted to both acts.
It was hardly WWE’s most inventive “whodunnit” but it’s always fun to see this kind of storyline brought back out and dusted off, even in the modern era especially when social media is so rife with activity and speculation.
