10 Best Backstage WWE Stories From Bruce Prichard's Podcast

6. "Take My Cape" (Ted DiBiase)

Those skits from the late-80s that had 'Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase and Virgil plan, buy and collect his Million Dollar Title are some of the best in WWE history.

As the lavish, rich and arrogant gimmick, DiBiase was in his element, and things became even more tremendous when he suddenly started donning a black cape for the segments. That cape, so says Bruce Prichard, belonged to one Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

It wasn't some prop the WWF had sourced to turn DiBiase into a modern-day mix of Dracula and Scrooge McDuck. Nope, it was legitimately hiding in McMahon's closet before he fetched it, handed it to Ted and said it'd help him look like an even bigger heel. Apparently, nobody stopped to question why Vince had the thing in the first place.

McMahon was right. It worked, and it enhanced the skits. DiBiase's Million Dollar belt collection is a sight to behold, partly because that darn cape is so over-the-top. Imagine Vince strutting about on nights out wearing it?

We are.
