10 Best Booked WWE Champions Of 2020
4. Drew McIntyre (WWE Championship)
There's no doubt WWE screwed up by having McIntyre drop the belt to Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell only to reclaim it three weeks later. However, that shouldn't take away from what WWE got right in booking its first British World Champion because there's a lot to celebrate here!
Since the first night of his reign, when he beat Brock Lesnar and the Big Show in subsequent matches, McIntyre has looked every inch the megastar the WWE Champion should be. An entertaining feud with Seth Rollins (in which McIntyre echoed the thoughts of wrestling fans the world over by telling the Monday Night Messiah he was "full of s**t") led to the match of the night at Money in the Bank, and his programmes against Bobby Lashley and Dolph Ziggler successfully stacked the deck against him enough to make it conceivable he might lose to either of them, thus making him look even stronger in victory. Simple booking, but effective.
However, the crown jewel (not that one) of McIntyre's reign was undoubtedly his rivalry with Randy Orton. The story they told - portraying Orton as the entitled brat McMahon and co. bent over to accommodate time and time again in contrast with McIntyre's well-documented struggles in the company - coincided with the pair's best-ever character work to form the basis of the summer's strongest feud.
Since McIntyre regained his belt from the Viper he's looked impressive as ever, with company golden goose Roman Reigns having to go low to beat him at Survivor Series following a hellaciously entertaining match, and hopefully 2021 is every bit as good to the WWE champion as 2020 was.
