10 Best British Wrestling Matches Of 2016

6. Chris Hero Vs. Mark Andrews (PROGRESS Chapter 30)

Will Ospreay Marty Scrull
PROGRESS Wrestling

Chris Hero's eventual WWE return will be the independent scene's loss. The former Kassius Ohno has put together an incredible body of work throughout 2016, marking him as one of the best wrestlers on the planet, and sealing his legacy. Fortunately, UK fans were blessed by several big time Hero appearances in both PROGRESS and RevPro, and he made a huge splash in the former's Super Strong Style 16 tournament this year.

Hero vs. Andrews is the classic big man vs. little man matched cranked-up to ten. It tells an incredibly straightforward story of the undersized high-flyer fighting valiantly against a monstrous bully, and both men were excellent. Andrews cemented his status as one of the country's most underrated performers with some grade A selling, and when the time came to mount his own periods of offense, the Welshman was as spectacular as ever.

This was Hero's first match in PROGRESS, and the fans lapped it up. The first half saw him beat Andrews down with huge, stiff strikes, but the smaller man worked his way back into it, and scored big with some high-flying spots. You'll struggle to find a better clash of styles all year, quite frankly.
