The former heavyweight boxing champion made what has been considered as the biggest and one of the most pivotal celebrity appearances at WrestleMania, even to this day. As WWE was riding into the Attitude Era, a changing of the guard was forthcoming and Mike Tyson was the conduit to help facilitate that change.

The classic confrontation between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mike Tyson on Raw lit the touch paper for one of WWE’s hottest angles of all time. With Vince McMahon apoplectic at Austin attempting to goad the boxer into a fight, along with Tyson aligning himself with Michaels and D-Generation X, it all lead to one of the most hotly anticipated WrestleMania main events in history.

As Tyson stood ringside with his D-X shirt on in an enforcers capacity, the deck was stacked against Royal Rumble winner Austin and that rabid crowd was desperate for something special to happen. What did went down in history as Tyson counted the three for Austin to win his first WWE championship ahead of knocking out Shawn Michaels and celebrating with Austin. Enhanced by Jim Ross’s iconic call on commentary, the match ushered in a new era for WWE and saw changes at the top end of the card with Austin cementing his legacy and going on to have on of the most famous feuds in all of wrestling and also sending Michaels into a four year hiatus. Tyson may not have said much or had a match, but his involvement in WrestleMania is truly historic.
