10 Best Endings In WWE Royal Rumble History
4. John Cena And Triple H (2008)
Although WWE claims every year that "anyone can win the Royal Rumble," the Rumble match has been pretty predictable for the better part of the past fifteen years. Even the less predictable Rumbles, such as the 2006 and 2010 instalments, had winners some fans could have seen coming.
But no one could have ever counted on John Cena making his shocking return to the ring from a nasty pectoral tear at the end of the 2008 Royal Rumble.
Madison Square Garden came unglued when Cena entered at No. 30, locking eyes with longtime rival Triple H who was standing in the middle of the ring with his jaw on the floor with the rest of the roster. Cena went on to eliminate everyone in sight until it was down to just him, Triple H and Batista, arguably the three biggest stars of that time period with 17 World titles between them.
The plot thickened once The Animal was eliminated and Cena and HHH, two men who longed for another shot at the WWE Championship, were the last competitors standing. They exchanged finishers and teased tossing the other over the top rope, but it was only after an Attitude Adjustment that Cena was able to get the better of The Game and came out on top.
Like him or loathe him, Cena winning the Rumble mere months removed from suffering an injury that was supposed to keep him out for nearly a year was one of those moments that are hard to come by in wrestling these days.
