10 Best Goldust Matches Ever
2. Bret Hart, Owen Hart, The British Bulldog, Brian Pillman & Jim Neidhart Vs. Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust & The Legion Of Doom (Canadian Stampede 1997)
Presented in front of one of the most partisan crowds in wrestling history, this match symbolizes the pinnacle of pre-Montreal Screwjob quality in WWE. Far beyond the storylines on show, this match represented national pride. The rabid reactions of the crowd only helped lift this match to the standard of instant classic.
Whilst Goldust may be viewed as a small cog in the overall workings of the match, his general demeanor and outlandish character made him the perfect mirror to the more traditional opponents and fans.
One of the most deafening spots from the match involved Goldust being tied up in the Tree of Woe with the Canadian heroes stomping him repeatedly.
The match was just as good as you would expect from looking at those involved, with all manner of styles melding and complimenting each other. From Austin’s ground and pound offence, to the more suplex and slam-heavy style of Neidhart and Bulldog, the match is a tour de force of variety.
The hometown team eventually went on to win the contest with Owen pinning Austin with a roll up after a wonderfully chaotic brawl. Easily one of the best matches in WWE history, it's worth repeat viewings for the crowd reactions alone.
