10 Best Heel Turns Of The WWE Attitude Era
7. The Rock (1998)
The last time we saw Rocky as a heel was back in 2003, during his 'Hollywood Rock' stint.
His villainous arc of 1998 and 1999 was, by contrast, outstanding. Having been screwed out of the Nation of Domination by D'Lo Brown and Mark Henry, The Great One had his first shot at playing lovable fan favourite. It wasn't long, however, before he took a major u-turn, firstly by ruthlessly beating all kinds of hell out of a then beloved Mankind, and secondly by aligning himself with the big bad Vince and his Corporation. An iconic war against Stone Cold Steve Austin would follow.
Just like that, the championship-wielding Rock was the top heel of the company, and the part fit him like a glove. As he was making a lightning-bolt surge towards top wrestling stardom, a subsequent face turn was inevitable, but during this bad guy prelude, The Rock took on the task with effortless substance and charisma.
