CM Punk's first Intercontinental Championship win came in the first month of 2009, as the Straight Edge Superstar battled through the villainous ways of the dastardly William Regal to collect the belt. The fact that the win came in his home-state of Illinois will have made it that little bit sweeter.

It was the second straight Intercontinental Championship change in the winner's homeland, as Regal had picked up the belt two months prior in Manchester (UK) by vanquishing Santino Marella. This was the third match between the two and contested under No Disqualification rules, and not even the distracting presence of Layla could throw Punk off his game.

This is every bit as good as a CM Punk vs. William Regal match on RAW could be. Punk picked up the win with the GTS, and sales of Pepsi went up that night in Chicago.
