There's an argument to be made that Jonathan Gresham is the finest technician left standing on the American indies. It isn't without merit. 'The Octopus' is an apt nickname for a grappler of his ingenuity, whose elastic mat skills are among the sport's most creative, pushing the game forward without straying too far from convention.

One need only look as far as his series with Jay Lethal for proof of Gresham's excellence, as the 30-year-old helped the revered Ring Of Honor headliner to his best of 2018. Such matches should make Gresham a star. He's still a midcarder on ROH's growing platform, but one of the most exciting and consistent performers on their roster, and while the Lethal matches are his Sinclair high-water mark so far, he has been operating at this level for years.

Gresham's indie resume is as deep as anyone's. It's surprising that he hasn't broken out to the extent of some of his peers yet, but that time will come. He has everything needed to become a Chris Hero/Bryan Danielson-level commodity, and if given the spotlight his talents warrant, he'll soar in 2019.
