10 Best Lucha Underground Moments

1. Season 1 Montage

Lucha Underground’s first season ended with a great event at Ultima Lucha. The night ended by wrapping up a host of feuds, as well as starting a whole series of new battles for the next season. The problem was, we didn’t know if we’d ever see them again.

Lucha’s ratings at the time weren’t all that hot, and it was a relatively expensive show to shoot for the El Ray Network. Perhaps the last images we’d see would be the ending montage, which while sad, would have been a brilliant way to go out.

What made it so great was how well shot it was, how it gave us brief closure for the characters and how it teased us with so much to look forward to. Black Lotus frantically pilled in bags of money to leave The Temple, Son of Havoc, Ivelisse and Angelico parted ways while finally earning each others’ respect, we got our first glimpse of Matanza’s face, Sexy Star was in peril and Dario Cueto seemed to float towards the camera in one of the most cinematic shot ever seen in professional wrestling.

In terms of pure production values and innovation, this may be a hard moment to top. But if any wrestling company is up for the task, it’s certainly Lucha Underground.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
