10 Best Matches From The NJPW G1 Climax 2018

5. Kenny Omega Vs. Kota Ibushi (11 August)

Kenny Omega Tomohiro Ishii
NJPW

Rating: *****

Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi made it look so easy.

The pair clearly left so much on the table for future rematches, which not only served as a tantalising tease for a Wrestle Kingdom 13 clash ultimately never meant to be, but also the potential IWGP Heavyweight Title shot Ibushi now theoretically has in his gold-sequined back pocket.

A mere shake of the head from Omega was the only significant moment of remorse for what he'd just done and the more that was to come. The pair both knew the task at hand, and set everything else aside for the good of the game.

Neither explicitly played their best hands physically nor emotionally - love was stifled in the face (and head...and neck) of battle as the two parked one of the greatest storylines in professional wrestling history in a battle to be the best for one night only. This particular battle was won by Ibushi, but like their blossoming renewed love, the war has barely even begun.
