5. Asuka Vs Bayley (NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II)
The inevitable meeting over the NXT women's championship between Bayley and Asuka was a highly anticipated one and when it finally happened in 2016, it didn't disappoint.
Their first meeting at NXT TakeOver: Dallas had the tough job of following another Japanese superstar's debut but they put on a fitting match to bring an end to the beloved Bayley's title reign. The ending to that one was brilliantly done as Bayley passed out to the Asuka lock after refusing to submit like the valiant fighter she is. A Bayley injury delayed the rematch but when it happened in August at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, the two produced an even better match than their first.
With Brooklyn the stage of Bayley's famous championship win the previous year, the crowd were solidly behind her in what turned out to be her NXT swansong. Bayley showed new found aggression, trading strikes and holds with Asuka as the two smartly played off the events of their first match. Bayley fighting out of the Asuka lock was an epic moment and the final minutes of the match were a barnstormer before Asuka picked up the dramatic win. It was a fitting end to Bayley's NXT career and she received a deserving standing ovation and a loud 'Thank you Bayley' chant as she left the ring in a super emotional moment.
