5. Vs. Shawn Michaels - Saturday Night's Main Event 2006
Another match in the feud between the McMahon family and Shawn Michaels, this Street Fight took place on an episode of Saturday Night's Main Event just before WrestleMania 22 in 2006. Shane had eliminated Michaels from the Royal Rumble a few weeks earlier, cementing his return to the side of the bad guys. Shawn went right at Shane in the early going, battling with an intensity that saw the second half of HBK's career outstrip the first in terms of match quality. Shane eventually got the upper hand and everything was building to yet another classic, ridiculous Shane-O Mac spot -this one saw HBK suplex Shane from a ladder in the ring right through a stack of tables. Ouch. A lot of Shane McMahon matches follow a similar formula; there is a lot of brawling, usually some outside interference, a crazy spot and a terrible finish. With the exception of the interference, this match had all of that, with the finish being a take on the Montreal Screwjob that WWE just love to revisit over and over and over again. Shane put Michales in the Sharpshooter, giving Vince the opportunity to immediately ring the bell and announce Shane as the winner.
Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
