10 Best Star Making Performances In AEW
1. Brodie Lee - Vs. Cody Rhodes, Saturday Night Dynamite 22/08/20
Having Mr. Brodie Lee squash Cody Rhodes to end his TNT Title reign after a run of open challenges is one of the bravest and best booking decisions AEW has made. The match was a dramatic way to push the monster leader of the Dark Order at the expense of one of the company's most protected wrestlers in Rhodes. The decimation of Cody and his minimalist-looking title atop the ramp to close Dynamite only added to the shock of the title change even more.
Brodie has since become an iconic part of the TNT Championship's and AEW's legacy after his tragic passing, with the follow-up match against Rhodes living up to the shock of the squash that preceded it. The whole presentation of the feud from start to finish was immaculate and will forever show how talented the former Luke Harper was as a main event-level heel.
Cody Rhodes should be given credit for once again using his protected star power to put over the men that actually get to beat him, like Brodie and the aforementioned Darby Allin. It is a difficult balance to strike, but when a star the caliber of Rhodes, Danielson, or Moxley is able to give enough to their opponent, including an occasional win, then it is a surefire way to make another wrestler reach their level.
