By the time Daniel Bryan landed a WWE contract in 2009, the real-life Bryan Danielson had already cemented himself as one of the absolute best workers on the planet.

Ever the modest, self-deprecating sort, Bryan has told how his first meeting with Vince McMahon suddenly became awkward when the American Dragon opted to downplay his own ability.

As Bryan once told WWE.com, he first met Vince in 2008 while he was competing for Ring of Honor. The story goes, VKM actually called D-Bry directly and asked for him to attend a Raw TV taping. Danielson would work a well-received dark match against Lance Cade, then eventually he got to sit down with McMahon.

Having splashed out on a new $500 suit for the occasion, the Yes! Man seemingly irked Vince by not bigging up just how great a performer he was.

"Vince said, ‘Shawn [Michaels] tells me you’re very good.’ And I just said, ‘Well, I’m okay.’ And I could tell instantly he disliked that. It was very awkward and very uncomfortable. Vince takes these very long pauses after he asks you a question and you answer him. He’ll just look at you. Some will start talking, which I think he likes because it shows they’re uncomfortable. I was uncomfortable, but I just looked at him."
