Though wrestling is certainly a relatively mainstream enterprise where pop-culture is concerned, it's also fair to say that there aren't that many movies or TV shows actually about wrestling itself.

In the cinematic realm we've had Mickey Rourke's Oscar-nominated The Wrestler and more recently the Paige biopic Fighting with My Family, but not a whole lot else. Instead, wrestling has received a far more intimate and expansive examination on the small screen.

Outside of the weekly wrestling shows from WWE, AEW, Impact, and so on, these shows all shined an informative, hilarious, and in some cases deeply weird light on one of the most misunderstood entertainment genres.

From documentary series chronicling the industry's ups and downs over the years, to glossy, prestigious docu-drama shows, and even animated series aimed primarily at kids, wrestling has been mined for drama and laughs in a number of cult fave TV shows.

While many of these series sadly didn't last that long, others continue to flourish and will hopefully indicate to networks that there's a huge audience for it. Until then, here are 10 TV shows about wrestling you shouldn't be sleeping on any longer...

10. Dark Side Of The Ring

VICE

Vice's acclaimed docu-series Dark Side of the Ring offers a storied window into the bleaker side of the professional wrestling business, covering a wide gamut of wrestling's most shocking tragedies from the last few decades.

Told with an even-handed, journalistic eye while being granted extensive access to high-profile figures from the industry, this is a series that's as informative as it is entertaining and at times totally shocking.

With a crucial critical distance from WWE, Dark Side of the Ring dares to dig into some of wrestling's most heartbreaking and infuriating stories that many involved would simply prefer to be forgotten.

The episodes covering the deaths of Owen Hart and Chris Benoit are unsurprising must-see TV, but even the more niche installments covering events and persons you've never heard of are compulsively watchable.

Season three wrapped up last October, and while season four hasn't yet been confirmed, given the show's ongoing success for Vice it seems like a sure thing. For even the most casual wrestling fan, Dark Side of the Ring is required reading.
