If you truly want to move to a new era in the company, it's time to cut ties with the guys associated with the past one. Listen, workers like the Big Show, Kane, the Dudleys, Goldust, and Mark Henry were all very valuable members of the roster at one point. However, most of them have been with the company for fifteen years or longer, off and on. The audience is sick of seeing them, plain and simple. Even someone like Randy Orton (who still has value) has been on television for over ten years. Contrast that to the Hulkamania Era in the 1980s when it seemed like Ted DiBiase, Randy Savage, and Hulk Hogan were in the WWF forever. Hogan and Savage were there for about ten years and DiBiase had a run of about eight years. That's amazing when you remember that Mark Henry has been with the company for nearly twenty years! Plus, there is much more television time to fill these days, so the current wrestlers have been even more overexposed. After he returns, would there be any harm in moving Randy Orton down to the midcard for a while to work with some new talent? It's not like he was setting ratings records while on top and no one outside of John Cena moves truly large amounts of merchandise. When the WWF was raided by WCW in the mid-1990s, they were forced to fill their roster with young, unproven guys and push them to the top of the card. That led to guys like Steve Austin, Mick Foley, and the Rock emerging as breakout stars out of necessity. Could it happen again? They won't know until they try.
