4. More Character Development
This is one area where the WWE has lost its edge and it's killing their product. Great wrestling is awesome to watch but the most successful wrestling matches of all-time hardly ever feature the best in-ring performers. Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant drew the largest crowd in WWE's history and the match was awful. Bruno Sammartino sold out Madison Square Garden over a hundred times and Bruno never worried about workrate or flips off of the top rope. Why? Because fans pay to see larger-than-life characters. WWE has forgotten how to create characters and only knows how to do gimmicks. Take Dean Ambrose, for instance: He's the Lunatic Fringe...why? What does he do that makes him a lunatic? As far as I can see, he makes funny faces and wears jeans while he wrestles. That's it. What about Sasha Banks? Michael Cole keeps telling us that she's "The Boss" but no one ever explains why she's The Boss. All she does is wear ridiculous glasses and give disapproving looks to fans and babyface wrestlers. That's it. The most successful wrestlers in history were characters, not gimmicks: Randy Savage was a wildman who was ultra-protective of his beautiful manager. Steve Austin was a no-nonsense redneck from south Texas who had no friends and came back from a broken neck to whip some ass. Kurt Angle was an Olympic gold medalist who was disgusted that people didn't follow his training regiment and value system. They all had depth. Now, all we're left with are a bunch of people with nicknames who wrestle exactly the same night in and night out without any explanation as to who they are.
