10 Best Wrestling Face Paints Ever

2. Sting

As a heroic babyface, Sting's face paint was somewhat uninspired. Sure, the colour schemes were fun and all, but it was a pure 'power and paint' gimmick, all filler and no killer. As the Stinger began to evolve into his Crow-esque persona however, his paintwork moved on to a whole new level. It became an integral part of his character's atmosphere, his aura. It became symbolic.

It also showed the true power of simple black and white. Colour is great, and the fact that we live in a technicolour world of wrestling paint is a wonderful thing, but sometimes all you need are the two shades at opposite ends of the spectrum. Black on white, dark on light, betrayal on trust. Sting's crow paint job transcended the fairly simplistic 'wrestler wears paint' and became something of a metaphor for the modern world, the duality of existence and the confusion that runs through it.

Or it was just cool. Yeah, it was just cool. It was also the only cool thing about Wolfpac Sting.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
