When Bully Ray defeated Jeff Hardy to win the TNA Heavyweight Title at Lockdown 2013, there was some optimistic excitement surrounding the promotion.

Ray deserved credit for getting himself into the best shape of his career, and the main event featured a satisfying conclusion. Bully, leader of the renegade Aces & Eights faction, was now the top champion in TNA.

The story rolled on, one focused on Aces & Eights looking to overthrow Dixie Carter and effectively take over the entire organisation. There was a feel of the nWo about the story, but it felt exciting compared to everything else going on in the promotion.

Aces & Eights had a cool vibe to them, inspired heavily by the Sons Of Anarchy TV show. A biker gang looking to dominate had merit from a storyline perspective, and it deservedly became the lead story in the company.

The downfall of the group came when Bully Ray dropped the TNA Title to Chris Sabin and management ran out of ideas for the heel stable. The Main Event Mafia were brought back as babyfaces to feud with Aces & Eights, and then Mr. Anderson beat Bully Ray in November 2013 to disband them.
