Back? That was awesome, wasn't it?

Kobashi is, without debate, one of the greatest wrestlers in history, let alone in his native Japan. Kobashi engendered incredible crowd support through a long series of losses that legitimized him in the eyes of fans. Kobashi was an upstart who would not say die no matter the circumstances. Taking established names to the limit before finally falling, everyone knew it was a matter of time before Kobashi would start winning. And win he did.

Kobashi evolved from an underdog to a beloved hero, but one thing never died: his fighting spirit.

Fighting spirit, as made popular in Japanese wrestling, is a refusal to fall, when a surge of adrenaline and pride push an individual beyond their physical limitations. It's likely something many have seen in independent wrestling and even on bigger stages like NXT and WWE. And nobody had fighting spirit like Kobashi.

His ability to absorb inhuman amounts of punishment, fire up, and refuse to lie down in the wake of insurmountable odds made him so easy to support. He had an air of vulnerability that was eclipsed by his awe-inspiring comebacks. Kobashi is one of the most influential wrestlers of his generation, and it is easy to see why.
